Why was the hole in the Pentagon 1/2 the size of the airplane that supposedly hit it?

It is about the size of the fuselage that impacted the building after the wings sheered of impacting the ground as it slid in at 500 mph. So, if that plane didn't hit the Pentagon, where is it and all the people that were on board. Or does your conspiracy theory include dozens of civilians on that flight that died.
